Second Life / Dresden Gallery

I came down with a "cold".

But I did install the Second Life client and checked out the Dresden Old Masters Gallery. Second Life - it's sort of that notorious virtual reality, meaning a game where you don't have to play, but instead have to do god-knows-what. Socialize, I guess.

Mixed impressions. On the one hand - the client lags mercilessly on my not-so-old PC, looks pretty ugly, and isn't exactly easy to learn. On the other  - massive customization options: you can drop in your own 3D models, textures and pictures, and write scripts. Because of this, SL as a virtual reality becomes better than games that otherwise surpass it.

As for the Dresden Gallery - it's done quite well in Second Life, the paintings look detailed enough, but not all of them and not all the time. Meaning  you can look at them, but the colors are a bit washed out and high resolution doesn't always load.

Overall - it's all still too complicated and crappy to actually use in any way, but the curious can take a peek.
